Album: Don't Say Goodbye, Say Until We Meet Again In May of 2006, the movers came. I'd already been living in San Francisco for four months. I came back to supervise the move, see some old friends, and walk through New York again; for the last time as a resident, for the first time as a tourist... for now. Last change: 01/30/07

Album: Snowstorm: New York City, December 2002 On December 5th, 2002, the weather forecast breathlessly promised us a blizzard. Uh, yeah, right. Not even close, even by eastern seaboard standards. Still, it did dump a few inches of snow on us in a few short hours, and watching the commuters scurry was fun. All of these photos were taken from my office window, looking down at the intersection of Canal and Hudson Streets, by the Holland Tunnel entrance. Last change: 12/14/04

Album: Nam's Shoe Repair Memorial On November 5th, 2002, Tae-Sub Kim, the 64-year old owner of Nam's Shoe Repair, a fixture of my daily walk to the subway, was found brutally murdered in his store, apparently the victim of a botched robbery. Neighbors and friends spontaneously put together a memorial for him. Several days later, the police announce that they had arrested a man for the crime, but I have not been able to find any more details. Last change: 12/14/04

Album: New York City
Halloween Parade
10/2002 Photos from Manhattan's 2002 Halloween Parade. These photos were taken from a 2nd-floor balcony, using the Canon's nightshot mode, which requires a somewhat steadier hand than I can normally give. (Or, ideally, a tripod.) The effect normally takes ages of photoshop work to clean up (if it can be done at all), but for Halloween it seems appropriate -- ghosts and phantoms, gliding semitransparently down 6th Avenue.
